RACE INFO

By entering the race online, you’ve assured yourself, and your teammates, a place on the start line at the race. However, this isn’t the end of the entry process; there’s still Race Registration (at the event).

Registration opens on Friday from 12:00 until 20:00. Please note there will be no registration on Saturday morning. 

Remember: Container Trucks will all be loaded on Friday to start departing in the early hours of Saturday morning to ensure they are in time at the Checkpoints. NO Trucks will be available on Saturday morning for loading.

Please Note: All information required for the race will be provided in the Race Guide. Allow enough time to familiarise yourself with the info before the race starts. 

Registration process:

  1. Acknowledgement, Waiver and Indemnity – Before you go to Registration read and sign BOTH Indemnities: Event Waiver and Indemnity: This is an important document that affects your legal rights and obligations. You must read it carefully prior to entering/taking part in the event. You would have accepted these conditions as part of your race entry. Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency Indemnity: This document is a requirement from ECPTA for entering the Park area in the Baviaanskloof during the event. DOWNLOAD HERE: Event Waiver and ECPTA Waiver of Liability and Indemnity Agreement Download Zip folder and open both Indemnities – you need to print and sign both of these. Team members should collectively sign on each. Know your race number – this is required to process your registration
  2. You will be asked to sign that you have received your Race Package, containing the below items.
  3. Should you want to collect the Race Pack for a friend, ensure to bring written consent from your friend. You can download the form here: Consent for race Contents collection
  4. Remember to bring along the container contents for all Checkpoints (that will depart on Friday night, 20:00)

Route Map Carry this with you the entire time! The route is not marked!
Race Token with Lanyard One per team. To be carried with you and presented at each checkpoint.

X1 for Checkpoint # 3 (Smitskraal) – recommended sending your lights here (moderate rider)

X1 for Checkpoint # 4 (Bergplaas) – Pack some warm clothes in here (can get VERY cold)
·       If you don’t use your container(s) – bring this back to Registration.

·       Containers for Checkpoint # 2, #3, #4: Trucks will be parked at Registration till 20:00 Friday night. Trucks will not be available on Saturday.

Timing chips are linked to specific riders, so don’t swop numbers?
Rider T-shirts Event T-shirt for each rider

If you did not select a T-shirt size while entering, large is set as the default size
Support T-shirt If you have selected a support t-shirt, this will be included in your package
Support Driver Badge Access to checkpoint(s) will be denied without this Supporter badge. Last-minute Support can be added at Registration – but note there is a limit.

Pre-ordered race apparel If you have ordered some extra race gear, this will be included
Pasta Meal Tickets If you have ordered pasta meals, this will be included. Meals served at the NG Church hall.

Training & Nutrition

So you think you have what it takes to conquer the Trans Baviaans? This is an event not to be taken lightly…but with a well-planned approach, it’s an eminently achievable challenge that might even make you a better mountain biker! 

The great thing about the Trans Baviaans is that it offers a great deal of support during the race. Support is not just provided by the event organizers but from within the team as well!

Because this is a team event the approach is different than an ordinary race!

The support driver is a full member of the team and forms an important part of the race for the riders.

The event is unique as the entire route is unmarked and tests the orientation skills of each rider. This ensures team work amongst everyone and brings out a camaraderie that makes this an experience that one will never forget!
